Lara Goes To Winter Camp!

Lara — our Exchange Student from Germany — had yet another fun adventure with YoungLife and all the friends she has made through the Youth Group! But this time… it was away from home at Lost Canyon Winter Camp in Williams, Arizona… about a 4-hour drive from our home…where it snows! I wasn’t there — and neither was Brittany — so this blog will be more about pictures telling the story!

However, I CAN share a couple of little stories. One is how worried we were as the buses traveled there. It started snowing the day before the 150 Teenagers left and it was still snowing during their drive. By the time they arrived… there was almost a foot of snow! It took 2 hours longer to get there because Semi-Trucks didn’t have chains on their tires and were sliding and blocking the road. While we waited to hear if they got there safely, my husband kept saying, ‘We shouldn’t have let her go. It’s too dangerous to drive up there!” It was cute seeing him worried about our newest family member! Lara kept texting me to report on their progress. When we heard they had arrived… we were able to go to bed! Whew! Funny how that natural Parenting instinct comes out when you’re responsible for another family’s child!!

The other funny story…. was how Lara had to prepare to go into snow and cold… something that she has lived with all her life in Germany… but she wasn’t prepared for here. After all, when she got to Phoenix, it was 114 degrees outside and it never snows in Phoenix! She had to buy some long sleeve shirts, waterproof boots and we equipped her with scarves and gloves!

Enjoy the Photos! And if you haven’t seen past posts about YoungLife, you can learn more about it at
